2019 Annual Summit, held by Financial Alliance for Women, became yet another occasion to celebrate the vision of moving forward for City Bank. The bank was recognized as a leader for successfully entering Women’s Market in last 12 months. City Bank, in collaboration with IFC (International Finance Corporation), have launched women banking division City Alo on 18th March, 2019.

The Women’s Market Champion New Program Award was received by Mr. Mashrur Arefin, Managing Director & CEO, City Bank. This Award is to honor members who provide a holistic environment with value to the women entrepreneurs as they recognize the hurdles that women face in terms of resources and other commercial environmental aspects making it difficult for them to get aligned with long term success.

In an audience of 200, the summit was carried forward explaining why it is important to focus on the Women’s Market, a key to gender equality, and how the successes came about overcoming obstacles. The highlights were mostly on the rationality for targeting women with strategies, both the positive and negative outcomes and finally, why personal leadership must be taken into consideration with no compromise.

Mr. Arefin was one of the discussants in a panel discussion titled “Decision Makers: A Conversation with Women’s Market Leaders” which was moderated by Inez Murray, CEO, Financial Alliance for Women. Other panelists of the session were BLC Bank’s Nadim Kassar, BNCR’s Ruth Alfaro and Zanaco’s Charity Lumpa. They had an open discussion on why they made the strategic decision to focus on the Women’s Market, what have been the key challenges and lessons learned, and how they have been able to champion work around gender equity. The panelists also discussed the impact (both positive and negative) of disruption on their strategy for the Women’s Market and the importance of personal leadership in their journey.

The summit was held on 17-19 June, 2019 and in the very city that celebrates the spirit of free women – Paris, among other global champions in the event being hosted by AXA.
